Are Good Trainers Born or Developed?

That's a good question. I happen to think some individuals are born with a knack for explaining things. Certainly, not all good trainers are born trainers, however. There is no reason an individual can not learn what others may know by nature.

A Passion for Training

A passion for training is more accurately a passion for sharing knowledge. This can be divided into two areas: one, a passion for learning; two, a passion for learners. Mix these two with a generous portion of public speaking and you've got the makings of a good trainer. If, at this point, you are only thinking about becoming a trainer but the words "public speaking" makes you weak in the knees, fear not. It is easily and frequently overcome.

Learning Styles

How do people learn? Why do some people "get it" and others don't? Isn't every individual is unique? How does a trainer communicate successfully with so many variables in play? It's not that complicated.

Your Trainer

The four most important contributors to successful training are knowledge, experience, passion, and an understanding of the learning process.

I have earned several certifications in my field of expertise. I have more than 12 years experience training a variety of topics. My students have ranged in age from teenagers to seventies. I have trained people at all levels of the corporate structure. The technical level of my students has ranged from novices to network administrators. I have tutored individuals and delivered material to groups as large as 30 students in a variety of settings. I love what I do and I know what makes people tic.

The articles on this site are intended for either novice or seasoned trainers. If you are entirely new to the training industry, this is a great place to start. Some of my opinions are unorthodox but I am speaking from many years of experience. More articles will be posted as they become available.
